  20. Yesterday, i attended a workshop on running science and biomechanics at the office of www.dumbelled.com. the traffic is so worsened due to the dug up roads everywhere in Mumbai. I had a core and conditioning as a part of my workout in the evening. However, i missed it due to traffic issues we got too late to go there. I feel restless when i miss my workouts.. Sunday is a rest day (no workout day) for me..so, 2 days without any workout is a punishment . so, i did my housecleaning work, and climbing the stairs (15 floors twice), and some abs (core exercise).

  39. 5 miles today - @ around 8minute per mile. When I started last year, it was around 12 minute /mile. Best part is that I stopped today not due to fatigue or exhaustion but because I am following a run plan and wish to attain the best without injuring myself. Human body is an incredible machine which acclimates to all situations. I never would have fancied in my life that I could do anything even remotely close to this ever. Man, this is so pure fun!

  41. I ran 3.5 miles today. Around the 2 mile mark, I got a severe back cramp. I have been having cramps and side stitches very often lately, even though I am well hydrated and avoid eating before running. I also try to keep my rhythm while breathing. It would be very helpful if someone would share some advice/tips.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In my opinion, there is no real known reason behind this cramps and side stitches. Usually people who are out of shape, and then engage in heavy exercise have a risk for cramping. I know you don't belong to that category at least. I would say - don't overdo anything or challenge yourselves with the timings which needs more time . You should also mix your running with some cross training if possible. When I experience any pain, I always stop for couple of days to make sure there is nothing serious about it.

      My two cents..

      Delete
  42. Cramping is a reflex action from brain to fatigue. If you are well hydrated and the necessary salt balance is also taken care of, then still you cramp. if that was the cause of cramping, the cramps would come in all over your muscles, why particular section only?
so, to get rid of cramps, you need to train your brain "not to give up" even some fatigue occurs. that can be done by gradual training. at the onset of cramps, get slower but "do not stop". after few minutes the cramps get milder and and vanish.
yes, strength training and conditioning as suggested by Sanjeev will help.
Focus on deep breathing when you get side stitches.slow down- and deep breath with slower rhythm.

  95. Running during the summer months is so different than running in the winter. You must have a different game plan especially when weather is hot and humid. Today, I ran around 9 miles outdoors in Katy in these conditions. Thankfully I wore a runner’s belt to carry bottles of Gatorade, otherwise I surely would have dehydrated and cramped. All said and done, after I finished the run, I felt like I was on top of the world! This kind of running will definitely take endurance levels to the highest degree.
